About Hanoi Food

Hanoi Food is an independent guide to the best street-food tours and culinary experiences in Hanoi — Old Quarter tasting walks, Train Street coffee stops, motorbike food rides and hands-on market cooking classes. We compare every guided option in one place so you can book the right one without the research. Ready to eat? See all our Hanoi food tours on the homepage.

Why we built this site

Hanoi is one of the world's great street-food cities, but that's exactly what makes it hard to plan. The best pho counters open for a few hours and vanish; bun cha grills hide down unmarked alleys; and every booking platform lists a dozen near-identical "Old Quarter food tours" with no clear sense of what sets them apart.

We do that sorting for you — putting the real details in one place: price, guide rating, group size, how many tastings you get, and exactly which streets and dishes each tour covers. We also explain what to expect from each format, because the right tour depends on your appetite, budget and how much of the city you want to see.

How we choose the tours

We don't list everything. We feature operators that meet a consistent baseline:

  • Licensed local operators with English-speaking Hanoian guides
  • A verified track record of strong reviews — we only feature tours rated 4.8★ and up
  • Clear, honest inclusions — tastings, drinks and any transport spelled out
  • Free cancellation so you can plan without risk

How we make money

This site is free to use. When you book through a link here, we may earn a small commission from the booking platform — at no extra cost to you. It never changes what you pay, and it never determines the order or rating of a tour.

Our comparisons reflect verified reviews, real value and what's genuinely best for different kinds of travelers — not commission rates.

About the author

This site is written and maintained by Trang Nguyen, a Hanoi-born food writer who has spent a decade eating her way through the city — from the pho counters of the Old Quarter and the bun cha grills of Hang Manh to the egg-coffee cafés of Train Street and the food court at Dong Xuan Market. She writes the dish notes, district maps and tour comparisons here from firsthand experience, not a template.
